SOME ISSUES ANSWERED
by the SystemOne Admin

  1. Why is my Recommended Courses not listing what I need to/want to take?

Ok. First, let me tell you that before our online service started, the OUR already generated your courses to take this semester. AFter some minor cleanups, several data sets were passed to me including but not limited to active students list, subjects offered, grades, plan of coursework and students' recommended courses AND the pregenerated schedules/slots for students. All of this was done by the program REGIST.
All I needed to do was import those to SystemOne for online access. One of the main complaints was on the Recommnded Courses. I discovered that the recommended courses generated by REGIST was based on a STRICT following of student's plan of coursework. For example, if course A is available this semester but your plan of coursework says you will take it on your second semester, then it will not recommend that course for you.

The other scenario why subject A cannot be recommended to you is that there are no more slots availbale oris in conflict with all your other subjects, but I have to confirm first on this matter.
  2. Is the above issue on Recommended Courses being resolved?

YES. AS of the time of writing of this document, I modified a program I used for the summer to get all "takeable"/valid courses of students and add it to their recommended list regardless of plan of coursework. I hope this lessens the complaints about this matter. The program was started early 10AM, June 10, 2007 and I hope it will be done by tomorrow early morning (June 11). Yes, it takes that long because the program takes every pain to check if a student is really valid to take a course by checking prerequisites and what not. The only problem left would IF the record given to me is faulty or unupdated to start with. I have discovered that in some plan of coursework of students, PE 2 activities are not mentioned. So If you have no PE 2 recommended for you for example, better have a check on your plan of coursework soon.
  3. What is the SystemOne Administrator's role in the Enlistment?

Just so I can tell you how "powerful" I am:
    • I secure the server, make sure it is restarted properly after a black out.
    • I do data backups.
    • I add to our database data prepared by my superiors (the OUR).
    • I also double as enlistor.
    • I approve SystemOne accounts based on an official student roster.
    • I do somewhat clerical work doing minor changes to records such as misspelled names and such.
    • I solve technical problems including debugging of code and such. UnFInalize students who say they ACCIDENTALLY finalized their schedules and such.
    • I program stuff that students think are helpful, and I think so too.
    • I'm like a call center with one employee right now, without the headset and no telephone line of his own.

These are the things I don't/didn't/can't do or know:
    • I CAN'T give you slots. It is either given to you by the registrar beforehand or you find it yourself.
    • I DIDN'T plan the schedules of classes and the number of slots. That registration activity is done by each department in the university.
    • I DIDN'T know why two courses A and B both of which you were to take have conflicting schedules.
    • I WAS NOT the one responsible why the laboratory class of A conflicts with its schedule.
    • I CANT'T add new subjects OR add additional slots to subjects. I only do this when I am ordered by a department chair OR the registrar.
    • I CAN'T change the schedules of classes. The departments handling those classes can do that and then a message is relayed to me to update the database of any changes.
    • I am NOT responsible for records that are unupdated. I am given a student record, I am NOT allowed to change it only to use it for processing. I will stress out, I only USE what is given to me.
    • I will add more when I get new things I am blamed with.

The only blame I will accede to would be the ridiculous server performance at the start of the service to which I apologize for, profusely, to all who have been inconvenienced by it. I am happy to say however, that our server performance have improved after some tweakings and reconfigurations to handle our needs.
  4. I don't like Online Enlistment/There are things I cannot do online, can I go manual?

Yes you can, but it's not exactly manual, there will be an Assisted Enlistment Area at C100 Physical Sciences Building (ICS). Representatives from all departments will be acting as enlistors. They will be using a computer application to enlist you in valid/desired subjects. This is to synchronize the "manual" registration with our online service. You can also use other computer terminals for accessing SystemOne.
  5. I will not Graduate on time because of you! It's your fault!

How was that my fault again?
  6. I really need a slot, can I ask for Teacher's Prerogative?

Yes you can. If you can ask the teacher to allow you to their section from June 12-15, you do not need a Form 26. The problem is, the data given to me did not include who the teachers are to every section, youmight want to inquire in the department handling the course for that. If you can do this, you will save paper, hence a tree (LOL). If you do it after the 18th OR after your Form 5 has been printed, we sacrifice the environment for your academic requirements. :D
  7. There is no NSTP course recommended for me, what should I do?

I have recently added the NSTP Enlistment Page for you to select your desired NSTP course and enlist at your own risk.

My problem was: For most students there is no mention of NSTP activity in their coursework. Thus I created the said page as a counter-measure. Because of the nature of it not being recommended AND not in most plan of coursewor, no waitlisting is allowed for NSTP Enlistment at the moment.
  8. Bkt poh wla aq recommndd crses???

Resend email please, and disconnect your cellphone keypad from your computer :|.
  9. Sir I ACCIDENTALLY clicked the FINALIZE button!

[Cutscene in my head, Mr. Mouse Cursor running away from you, didn't read what the labels said about the button, didn't even see the button. Mr. Mouse Cursor trips on button and falls face down, clicking it...nuclear explosion on the screen...THE END -- Now that's an accident.]

Pun intended. I can still unfinalize it if it is not yet the assigned time for me to send to the registrar the next batch of printable Form 5s. ACCIDENTALLY click this on the enlistment weekdays and you will be in bigger trouble [Read: "Oh look! I accidentally typed a long database command to remove all your slots." After that I will accidentally press the Enter key ].
  10. Horrendous start sir! But it's ok now what happened? Why is Subject A still not recommended to me?

I made a big mistake, overlooked some things. But we're smooth now, never had to restart the server except during those pesky power interruptions. But your records are so BAD though, perhaps you need to update them and fiercely see to it that your updates get to the Registrar, so you don't get missing subjects and such. Too bad about first impressions that lasts though. :((
  11. Sir ang galing ng systemone, keep up the good work!

    Oh gee...gosh...wheeze..*blush*...thanks. :D
  12. SystemOne sucks sir! My friendst*rs and I suggest you stop it.

    Oh gee...gosh...wheeze..*blush*...thanks. :D
  13. I am a UPLB student and I'd like to help, I'm profficient at (programming | web design | giving moral support). Are students allowed to help in SystemOne?

ah, im a uplb student. interested to help, if most of the scripts in the server are in php and mysql, i want to help :) are students allowed to help in SystemOne?
